Mark Makumbi is dead!!! Too bad. Death is normal but this is quite tragic. I have struggled through todays Radio show with some “Dejavu” feeling. I wondered what was wrong and after signing off, i was happy the show had finally come to an end, yet the news anchor was standing by with the sad news. “Mark Afudde”, Archie Kiwanuka confers to me . I was devastated. My brother Mark has battled with Colon Cancer for quite some time now, getting in and out of hospital wards with all the hope and support of family and friends. He had countless operations as he fought for his dear life.
Mark was so full of life, hopeful that one day this dreadful challenge will come to pass. He wanted to make it big, and think beyond the narrow confines of some individuals. His father and mother are both legendary entertainers who also wanted to see their son emulate and carry on the talent they exhibited. This has not been the case. The Lord had his plans.
Mark was funny, humorous, witty, but also cautious. His presentation during sports commentaries always had a few swahili undertones which made the whole experience sound interesting. I am going to miss Makumbi everyday. As a friend and colleague, i would like to take this opportunity to thank everybody for all that you have accorded Mark Makumbi. Whosoever has played a role, through prayer, contribution, support , thank you and the good lord will reward you abundantly. Just as James Riley says:
I cannot say, and I will not say
That he is dead. He is just away.
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand,
He has wandered into an unknown land
And left us dreaming how very fair
It needs must be, since he lingers there.
RIP Mark Makumbi.
