Central Broadcasting Service (CBS FM) presenters led by Godfrey Sseguya aka “Kaibanda” have met president Museveni for the second time at State house Entebbe. The meeting brokered by Museveni’s private secretary Amelia Kyambadde, was attended among others by business men HK Matovu and Mwanamugimu. The group discussed a range of issue pertaining to the resumption of the station’s operations and the welfare of presenters. According to a source who preferred anonymity, Museveni was bitter about the continuous reference to those who meet him as “Bayuda”. The president promised to table the CBS issue with cabinet very soon. According to the source, the group did not apologize as purported by some people. “Our meeting highlighted our plight and the need to re open the station as soon as possible so as to move on with our lives”. Although CBS is high on the president’s agenda, the re opening of CBS is still tricky due to numerous elements in Cabinet and some scores at Mengo who are against the idea. They claim that the station nurtures and grooms opponents in their constituencies. In 2006, a big chunk of these ministers narrowly survived losing the vote. This time around Billy Katumba aka “Kasodde” was also part of the contingent. Personally I applaud any effort by anybody to ensure that the radio gets back on air, whether formal or clandestine.
